Lame Racks:I have yet to use a bike rack I like. Almost all racks are designed to lock the frame and the front wheel. However, most bikes today feature handy, quick-release mechanisms on the front and rear wheels. Given that it takes, oh, about 6 seconds to remove a bike's rear wheel (worth about $200 - well over the value of the front wheel) I can only assume these racks were designed in a time when quick-release rear wheels didnt exist, or were made by people who never lock up their own bikes. College campuses are littered with bicycles diligently locked to racks in the prescribed fashion with their rear wheel missing (or worse, with only a wheel locked and the rest of the bike gone).

The currently vogue "Coat Hanger" Rack. A steal at $600 a piece. |

Who designs these things? |

A horrible frame-and-wheels rack: notice the actual use. |
