This piece was a semester-long project for a materials and techniques sculpture class designed to introduce numerous practices of sculpture making and to "provoke individual investigation of materials and material usage."
The project, entitled "an extraordinary container," was a four part cumulative piece. The challenge was to work from the outside in, building layer upon layer to create a cohesive whole. Criteria included the use of welding, a curved wooden lamination, "discovered or invented" materials, and a molded object as the core.
