Close Portrait |
Self Portrait 32" x 40" Acrylic on illustration board This painting is comprised of over 2200 individually-painted squares. It is a simplified form of a style created and developed by American photorealist painter Chuck Close. I made the painting in the same manner as Close does. That is, I took a photograph of myself and enlarged it to about 8" by 10". Grid lines were then drawn over the photograph. Four times as many grid lines were also drawn on the 3 foot by 4 foot illustration board (this is actually small: Close generally uses canvas several times this size). It was then a matter of accurately transferring the value of each grid square on the photograph to the corresponding four grid squares on the board. |
