We make a side trip from Kyoto to the nearby towns of Uji and Nara. In Uji we tour the Byodoin Temple, also known as the "Phoenix Temple". The building's floor plan is supposed to resemble the outline of a phoenix, but whoever suggested this first probably just had an overactive imagination.
